Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha is a Nigerian business expert and and former representative of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State.

She is presently serving as the federation’s Minister of State, Labour and Employment after her appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Early Life

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha was on the 23rd of November,1969 at Isuochi in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State.

 

Education

Isuochi Central Primary School and Ovim Girls School, Isuochi were the places Onyejeocha had her primary and secondary education respectively.

She proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she had a diploma in Social Work/Community Development in 1988 and a Bachelor of Art Degree in 1993.

In a quest for more knowledge, she obtained a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Imo State University in 2005 and another Master’s Degree in Shipping from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Oyo State.

 

Family

Nkeiruka grew up with her grandmother due to the early demise of her mother, her father is Eze Bob Ogbonna .

She is married to Sir Kingsley Onyejeocha and the marriage is blessed with children.

 

Career

She began working as a Managing Director of her husband’s company, Nikkings and Kingzol International Ltd which dealt with sales of children and household goods.

 

Political career

Her interest in politics stated during her undergraduate days in the university when she took active part in school politics.

Her interest and passion for politics increased massively when she served in the protocol office of the governor of State of Osun during her one year Nigeria National Youth Service in 1993.

In 2002 and 2003, during Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s administration, she was appointed as commissioner for Resource Management and Manpower Development.

Onyejeocha was made Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State. A position which gave her the opportunity of implementing several rehabilitation projects,providing community security amongst others to her people.

In 2007, Onyejeocha’s political ambition was taken to the next level as she was elected into the Federal House of Representatives in 2007 on the platform of People’s Democratic Party( PDP).

She was an advocate for the improvement and the well being of women, children, youths and the vulnerable citizens of the state.

Hon. Onyejeocha was appointed chairman house committee on aviation in 2011. She piloted projects that led to the upgrade of Nigerian airports to international standards.

In 2013, she led the investigative team for prosecution of officials who were involved in the Dana Air Crash of June 2012 and the alleged siphoning of funds by the then aviation minister, Stella Oduah.

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha defected to All Progressives Congress, APC in 2018 after an intense pressure from her former party leaders to drop her ambition for a return ticket to the house.

In 2019, she won her re-election bid for a fourth term in the Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives.

Awards and titles

In recognition of her service to the development of her hometown, she was conferred with a traditional chieftaincy title of Adaejiagamba- (ambassadorial daughter).

Award for the most vibrant female legislator in Nigeria by Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASSAN) by the 7th assembly.

In August 2023, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha was appointed the Minister of State, Labour and Employment of the federation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
