Yusuf Tuggar hails from Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He was born on 12th March, 1967.
Tuggar born into a Muslim family alongside his other siblings. His parents are Mr Abubakkar and Mrs Fatima Binta Tuggar. His father was the organizing secretary of the Northern People’s Congress and was later the Senator in the second Nigeria Republic. He is married and has children from his wife.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in international relations from the United States International University and a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge.
He had his early education in his hometown before studying at the Federal Government College, Illorin where he had his West African Senior School Certificate.
Tuggar was CEO of an an energy consulting firm, Nordic Oil and Gas Services and also a contributor on political and economic opinions in Nigerian newspapers and magazines.
From 2007 to 2011, Tuggar represented Gamawa Constituency from Bauchi state in the Nigerian House of Representatives.
He was the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, regulating government funding in the oil and gas industry, education, health and water resources, the committee worked on separating the president’s cabinet from affairs of awarding contracts.
During his service, he created the National Council on Public Procurement, and member of the house committees on foreign affairs and the deputy chairman of the house on Public Petitions.
He sponsored a bill on inhumane transport of livestock on the floor of the house.
Tuggar contested as governor of Bauchi state on the platform of the Congress Afor Progressive Change but lost.
He veered to the All Progressive Congress ( APC) in a bid to contest as governor of the state but could not make it in the party’s primaries.
He was appointed the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017.
During his tenure as an ambassador, he took active parts in decision making during the 23rd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change.
In August, 2023, Tuggar was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs after being screened and cleared by the Senate.
