ENigeria Newspaper reports that the PEPT on Wednesday declared incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the authentic winner of the Presidential election on February 25, 2023, in Nigeria.
The tribunal threw out petitions of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Paty, adding that the duo failed to prove their case on a number of issues contained in their petition against Tinubu.
Some of the petitions against Tinubu at the PEPT include the allegations made by the Labour Party (LP) that he (President Tinubu) was not qualified to contest the election in view of the $460k fine in relation to alleged narcotics charges in the US. The court however held that trial and conviction by a court is the only way to prove guilt, hence it threw the petition out.
The PEPT ruled that the case was a civil forfeiture case as it is a unique remedy that rests on the property being the target and not the person.
The case was in the civil docket of the United States North District Court Illinois the tribunal insists.
Another petition filed against the [resident borders on alleged certificate forgery of Chicago State University Certificate, 25% vote cast in Abuja being a determining factor for a candidate to be declared winner of a presidential election in Nigeria, among others.
Afrobeats singer, Davido in his reaction claimed that elections in Nigeria can only be won by the most “rugged” politicians.
Davido made the remark via X (formerly), on Wednesday, September 6, following the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
He tweeted: “Nigeria Election nah by who rugged pass.”
But a netizen who was curious over Davido’s comment asked if his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, won by ruggedness.
The netizen, with the X handle @chief_ochuko, asked: “Na ruggedity ur uncle take win Abi?”
Responding to this, the Unavailable crooner, said that rugged men backed the Osun governor.
His words: “Men mount.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has said that the verdict of the PEPT has renewed his goal of unifying and building Nigeria.
Tinubu was quoted to have said this in a statement released by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, hours after the PEPT upheld his election victory on Wednesday, September 6, in Abuja.
