Demolition To Commence At Bishop Oyedepo’s Dominion Hanger Inside Lagos Airport

Demolition is now set to commence at Dominion Hanger owned by Bishop David Oyedepo, inside Lagos Airport, ENigeria Newspaper reports.

Recall that in April, ENigeria Newspaper had in April reported that Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation had ordered a teardown of two hangars at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja to make room for the enlargement of the terminal apron.

The two private jet hangers affected then and marked for demolition at the time were Dominion Hangar, owned by Bishop Oyedepo, the general overseer of Living Faith Ministry, and Evergreen Apple, owned by Dr. Harold Demuren, the former director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

During a routine inspection of the Lagos facility on Thursday, Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development again, reechoed the order for immediate demolition of Dominion and EAN hangars.

According to the minister, the demolition is necessary for the expansion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA2), Lagos.

Keyamo also expressed dissatisfaction over the unkept environment at the airport, handing out orders for the area to be immediately tidied and kept clean.

Speaking on the proposed demolition former Minister, Hadi Sirika alleged that, some aggrieved individuals opposed the idea, but “not-withstanding the demolition must go on and nothing can stop it”, he said.

Meanwhile, at a Stakeholders Forum, Sirika also reiterated plans to demolish the regional offices of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to make room for an Aeropolis that, according to unions, was never intended for the Lagos Airport.

The minister criticized opponents who questioned the purpose of all the planned demolitions while he was in Lagos to commission new firefighting vehicles.

He emphasized the need for the dismantling of the two facilities and claimed that since the terminal in Lagos became operational, it has not reached close to its full capacity.

He said: “We are not operating Lagos airport at full capacity. We have some obstructions that will be removed within the next one or two weeks to expand the Apron so that Lagos will have full use 100%.

“Those two hangars I talked about, Dominion and Evergreen will have to go and give way for our airport to be more efficient. It is a $300 million investment over there and they can’t sit there in the public interest. We have to shift them, I don’t know them, of course, I know Demuren, my leader but I don’t know the other guy, it has to go. You can’t deny Lagos and the country in general from using the airports.”

“We are going to demolish Dominion Hangar and Evergreen Apple Nigeria hangars to make way for the new Apron and that would be in a few weeks”, however, the order was not carried out before his exit from office.
