Ghanaian Music Legend Teddy Osei Passes Away at 88years

Teddy Osei, the renowned Ghanaian saxophonist and founder of the Afro-rock band Osibisa, has died at the age of 88. Osei’s passing was confirmed by the band, who described him as “an important voice in music and culture”

Born on December 1, 1937, in Kumasi, Ghana, Osei was introduced to music by his father, who played in prominent school bands. In 1969, Osei cofounded Osibisa, which became one of the first African bands to gain international recognition. Osibisa’s chart successes in the UK included singles like “Sunshine Day” and “Dance the Body Music”

Hiscontributions have inspired generations of African artists, and his music continues to resonate with audiences around the world.

The Musicians Union of Ghana (Musiga) paid tribute to Osei, describing him as “a pioneer in the world of music and a cultural ambassador who helped bridge the gap between African rhythms and global sounds”
