Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had embarked on a medical leave after he was down with an undisclosed ailment that left him incapacitated and unable to discharge his duties as governor.
The Ondo State governor who was reluctant about embarking on medical leave initially was eventually arm-twisted after opposition parties in the state mounted intense pressure, calling the attention of the public to the governor’s state of deteriorating health which they alleged had left some lacuna in the government at the time.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that on June 13, 2023, the governor eventually proceeded on an initial 21-day medical leave which was later extended. This was contained in a letter sent to the Ondo state House of Assembly on the same date.
The governor proceeded to delegate authority to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who would serve as the state’s governor until he would later return from his leave.
The letter requesting a leave of absence for medical reasons was delivered to the House of Assembly as confirmed by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that Akeredolu was eventually taken to Germany for medical intervention and sources within his circle confirmed to this newspaper exclusively that he is recuperating after undergoing multiple surgeries abroad.
Also, he had since been receiving visitors among whom was Senator Niyi Adegbonmire who visited days back and gave an account of the Governor’s improved health status.
Providing a further update on the Governor’s health and plans for his return was a friend of the governor’s wife Chukwudi Iwuchukwu who told ENigeria Newspaper that the governor’s wife Mrs. Betty Anyawun days back confirmed to him that the worst is over, adding that the governor is set to return to Nigeria anytime soon after successful medical procedures in Germany.
“Governor Rotimi Akeredolu Aketi of Ondo State, who is convalescing in Germany, is expected home any moment from now with his wife and the First Lady of the State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who has been at his bedside for the past 3 months”, the source said.
“I have been in touch with her excellency since she left Nigeria, and one of the lessons I learned is that marriage is about for better or for worse”, a source who spoke to ENigeria Newspaper confirmed on Friday evening in Lagos.
“It is not about kissing or posting beautiful pictures on Facebook, to pepper single people.
No!
“Life will happen, and when it strikes, that is when the true test of the marriage will be challenged and tested.
“I also learned that men should treat their wives with love, dignity, and respect because, when life hits you, it is your wife that will leave everything she is doing to be with you at the sick bed, not your kids, relatives, or even your side chick, but your wife.
“When Madam told me the worst was over the last time we spoke, I knew that the return date was imminent.
“I can’t wait to see her and Oga in Akure, and I’m happy that detractors and evil people hoping for the worst have been shamed”, the source concluded.
