Omoyele Sowore
On Sunday, ENigeria Newspaper reported that Sowore was detained by operatives of the DSS who had reportedly placed him on a Watch list over his alleged role in the EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria weeks back.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) which first detained the #RevolutionNow convener, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, had initially confiscated his international passport but later released him to the waiting arm of the DSS operatives acting on an order from ‘above’ to arrest him on sight.
Following the initial report of Sowore’s arrest published by ENigeria Newspaper, the radical activist and former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in a tweet via his official X handle announced that he had been released, moments after.
“I have just been released. My passport and everything have been returned to me,” Sowore said after his release.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters earlier on Sunday reported that members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists had besieged the airport to await the activist’s return to the country.
Sowore had been with his family in the United States.
His flight left the Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 WAT.
