Presidency Withdraws Fake News On Tinubu Ringing NASDAQ Bell

Nigerians have not stopped calling out the Presidency for disseminating fake news about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu days back.

ENigeria News reports that earlier (days back) the media office of the President disseminated news reports indicating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be ringing the bell at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation (NASDAQ).

In fact, the statement from the President’s media office specifically stated that President Bola Tinubu would be the first African leader to ring the bell at the NASDAQ.

The report which had since gone viral and was heavily applauded in several quarters by supporters of President Tinubu is now realized to be false.

In a press statement issued from the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Ajuri Ngelale, the president apologized, adding that the error was regreted.

However, ENigeria News gathered that contrary to Ngelale’s earlier claim which is now known to be false, Jakaya Kiwete, former president of Tanzania, actually first rang the NASDAQ closing bell in 2011.

“We inadvertently referred to President Bola Tinubu as the first African leader to ring the bell at NASDAQ on Wednesday in New York, based on the information provided by a third-party event organiser.”
“We have since found out that this information was/is incorrect as a former African leader has indeed had the privilege. This error is sincerely regretted,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, all over social media many netizens had since taken to the handles to blast both the president and his media team for such embarrassing media outing.
