Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform policies, saying they are causing hardship for Nigerians, particularly in the North.
Mohammed made the comments while receiving the National Chairman of the Council of Ulama Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah, Sheikh Sani Jingir, who paid him a condolence visit at his office in Bauchi.
The governor expressed frustration with Tinubu’s refusal to listen to the concerns of governors and the people, saying his policies are not working. He specifically mentioned the recent tax reforms proposed by the Federal Government, which he said would worsen the economic weaknesses of northern states.
Mohammed urged Jingir to use his influence to appeal to Tinubu to review his policies, saying “we mean no disrespect, but we have been telling the president that his policies are not working.
In response, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the governor’s stance does not reflect the attitude of the North towards the Tax Reforms bill, and that his energy would be better directed towards implementing effective poverty alleviation programmes.
