In order to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 15th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government, Vice President Kashim Shettima will fly out of Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa.
This was announced in a statement released on Monday in Abuja by Olusola Abiola, Director of Information for the Office of the Vice President.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa collectively refer to themselves as BRICS, a group of five significant emerging and developing economies.
Shettima will attend the Summit, which will take place from August 22 to August 24 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, together with other corporate and political leaders from around the world.
Abiola revealed that prominent world leaders including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are anticipated to attend the event.
“Seven-three dignitaries, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, and the president of the New Development Bank have also been invited.”
The conference, according to the director, was planned to include topics like global governance reform, sustainable development, and the facilitation of trade and investment.
As it focuses on global geopolitics, commerce, and infrastructure development, it will also continue to reach out to leaders from Africa and the global South.
The Vice President is traveling with a few top government officials, according to Abiola, and he is scheduled to return home at the end of the week.
More than 42% of the world’s population, 30% of its area, 23% of its GDP, and 18% of its trade are accounted for by the BRICS group.
One of its basic principles is a shared commitment to reconstruct the world’s political, economic, and financial system such that it is based on the principles of multilateralism and international law and is fair, balanced, and representative.
