You would recall that only days back, the Federal Government had embarked on massive demolition of businesses and properties occupying the coastal line in Lagos to pave the way for the construction of the coastal Lagos-Calabar highway project that is currently ongoing.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has consistently justified the demolition, emphasizing the importance of removing the landmark center and others due to its location on the Federal Government’s Right-of-Way.
While the Federal Government has reportedly begun payment of compensations to property owners affected by the demolition, ENigeria News exclusively reports that the demolition which saw the end of various businesses within the Landmark Beach eco-system, and sparked outcry from across the country, had since seen the relocation of Landmark Beach to a new beachfront in Ibeno, a small-town bordering Eket in Akwa-Ibom State.
Officials of the Ministry of Tourism in Akwa-Ibom State who spoke to ENigeria Newspaper during a recent interview confirmed the development and noted that the government of the state is investing heavily in tourism and for the said reason is open to investors across the world.
“Since Landmark operated within the hospitality and tourism eco-system, it is only natural to welcome them here”, said Charles Udoh, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Akwa-Ibom State.
As of the time of filing this report, ENigeria News understands that Landmark is making arrangements to mobilize to the site, this is after the signings of all necessary documents have been concluded following approvals by the state government.
It is also pertinent to state that there are other businesses affected by the recent demolition and notable among them are those mentioned below:
Mami Chula Beach, which had its grand opening earlier in February 2024, is situated within the Oniru Beach area. It provides a high-end beach experience, offering a gourmet restaurant, a chic rooftop lounge, and a beachside bar.
Breeze Beach Club, located in Victoria Island, Lagos, is a leisure destination that caters to a variety of preferences. Its range of amenities and family-friendly atmosphere make it a popular choice for visitors seeking a relaxing getaway.
Secluded on Victoria Island, this private retreat is a popular spot for islanders and visitors alike. A variety of amenities are available at the club, such as a restaurant, bar/lounge, pool, open-air terrace and nightclub. From sunbathing and pool dives to horseback riding and beach yoga, guests have a wide range of activities to choose from.
As a well-known coastal destination in the Oniru area of Lagos, it offers visitors a serene escape with its picturesque views and an array of recreational activities. Oniru Beach appeals to both locals and tourists seeking relaxation and enjoyment along Lagos’ coastline. Its accessibility and diverse offerings make it a popular choice for those looking to unwind by the sea.
Xchange Lagos, situated at Oniru Private Beach, offers a diverse array of amenities, including water sports, seaside lounges, a restaurant, beachfront apartments, cabanas, and a vibrant bar. With a nightclub, event centre, adult and children’s pools, and a jetty, it caters to all preferences. It attracts celebrities and visitors seeking relaxation and excitement, making it the ultimate beach destination for leisure and entertainment.
