In 1972, he completed his secondary studies at Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo.
Oyetola continued on to the University of Lagos, where he earned an Insurance Bachelor of Science with honors in 1978.
While completing his one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) requirement, he lectured at the Staff Training Centre in Potiskum, Yobe State, between 1978 and 1979.
He graduated from the University of Lagos with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1990.
On September 29, 1954, Adegboyega Oyetola was born in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area, Osun State.
He has a happy family life with his wife, Mrs. Kafayat Olaitan Oyetola, with children and grandchildren.
The family has been prosperous and content for many years, rising from poverty to grace as a consequence of their hard work and dedication.
Oyetola joined Leadway Assurance Company Limited in 1980 as an area manager. He remained there until 1987 before moving on to work as the underwriting manager for Crusader Insurance Company Limited from 1987 to 1990.
He started working for Alliance and General Insurance in 1990 as a technical controller and held that position there until 1991, when he left to form Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited.
From the company’s inception until 2011, when he was named chief of staff to Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, he served as managing director.
Between 2005 and 2011, Oyetola also held the position of Executive Vice Chairman of the Paragon Group of Companies.
Additionally, he presided over Ebony Properties Limited. Prior to 2011, he served as a director of Pyramid Securities Limited. He is a member of the Nigerian and London chapters of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
He belongs to the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), as well.
Oyetola was a part of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), which later changed its name to Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and finally to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He ran for governor of Osun state on the All Progressives Congress ticket in July 2018 and won, competing against Yusuf Lasun, deputy speaker of the Osun state House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayomi Salaam, Dr. Samuel Ibiyemi, publisher of Nigerian News Direct Newspapers Adelere Oriolowo, and Moshood Adeoti, among others.
The day of his inauguration was November 27, 2018. The All Progressive Congress and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, were ruled to have been invalidly returned by the Abuja-based Election Tribunal on March 22, 2019.
On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Oyetola transitioned the Governorship seat to Ademola Adeleke in a formal ceremony held in the state capital.
He ran for governor of Osun State in the September 2018 election on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and he controversially won.
Senator Adeleke of the PDP must receive certificates of return after a tribunal ruled on March 23 that he had not been returned legitimately. This ruling was appealed in the Court of Appeal.
He served as Rauf Aregbesola’s chief of staff prior to him winning the election.
