The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday concluded its state congresses across the country, producing new – and in many cases returning – executives in largely peaceful exercises marked by consensus arrangements and endorsements ahead of 2027.

Kaduna

In Kaduna, stakeholders adopted Isaac Atiku Sankay as consensus chairman at the congress held in Kaduna. Governor Uba Sani described the process as orderly and reflective of party unity, noting that thousands of ward and local government officials had earlier emerged from grassroots congresses.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, urged the new leadership to mobilise at least two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Sankay pledged to deepen grassroots mobilisation and strengthen internal cohesion.

Ebonyi

In Ebonyi, the 36-member State Working Committee was returned unopposed through consensus in Abakaliki. Chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha retained his seat and thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for backing a rancour-free process.

Party leaders said adopting consensus candidates helped eliminate internal tension and reinforce unity ahead of future elections.

Lago and Ogun

Cornelius Ojelabi and Yemi Sanusi were re-elected by the APC to serve a second term as State Chairmen in Lagos and Ogun States, respectively.

Yemi Sanusi was chosen as APC Chairman, Ogun State Chapter, by a voice affirmation by 1,180 delegates at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, while Ojelabi was elected by a consensus backed by roughly 2,000 delegates at the party’s Lagos State Congress, which took place on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos Island.

Adeola Jokomba, the secretary, Oluseye Oladejo, the publicity secretary, and Moshood Mayegun, the deputy chairman, also returned to Lagos State.

Oyo

Former Deputy Governor Moses Alake Adeyemo emerged as state chairman in Oyo through consensus at the Ibadan congress. Party officials described the exercise as the final phase of a three-tier congress process that began at ward and local government levels.

The state publicity secretary said the peaceful outcome signalled a return to harmony within the chapter and positioned the party for stronger electoral performance.

Borno

In Maiduguri, Governor Babagana Zulum warned that politicians who “operate from Abuja” but return only during election season would not be allowed to take control of the party structure.

The congress reaffirmed existing leadership, with Bello Ayuba re-elected as chairman. Zulum credited unity within the party, while acknowledging the role of Vice President Kashim Shettima in sustaining cohesion in the state.

Bayelsa

In Bayelsa, former lawmaker Warman Weri Ogoriba emerged as chairman alongside 35 other executive members through consensus in Yenagoa.

Stakeholders described the exercise as hitch-free and said the new leadership would sustain peace within the party. Leaders expressed confidence in delivering strong results for the APC in 2027.

Niger

Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago described Niger’s congress as one of the most peaceful in the country. The newly affirmed State Working Committee members were presented at the Government House in Minna.

Party leaders said the consensus model reflected fairness and unity across the 25 local government areas and called for sustained discipline as preparations for 2027 gather pace.

Kwara

Alkali Alibe, Chairman of the State Congress Committee, convened a party congress on Sunday at the Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital, where Fagbemi was elected Chairman of the APC in Kwara State. Through approval in the Congress, Fagbemi joined other members of the 34-member State Executive.

Edo

In Benin City, delegates from 192 wards returned the Jarret Tenebe-led executive unopposed for a second term. Tenebe thanked members for their confidence and called for reconciliation where necessary.

Former governor Adams Oshiomhole described the process as seamless and symbolic of party unity in the state.

Kebbi

In Kebbi, incumbent chairman Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru secured another four-year term through voice affirmation in Birnin Kebbi. Governor Nasir Idris praised delegates for what he called a peaceful and exemplary congress.

INEC officials who monitored the process said they were satisfied with the conduct and outcome.

Abia

In Abia, former lawmaker Chijioke Chukwu emerged as chairman under a consensus arrangement. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu said the peaceful congress demonstrated renewed unity within the party and predicted stronger performance in future elections.
