The young and accomplished medical expert,Dr Betta Edu was born as a twin in Lagos on the 27th of October,1986 to Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Eke of Ibalebo village in Abu LGA of Cross River State.
Betta Edu schooled at Charles Walker International Nursery and Primary School, Calabar and had her First school leaving Certificate 1995 . She was enrolled in Federal Government Girls College, Calabar where she completed her secondary education and obtained her West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate in 2001.
In 2009,she graduated with a degree in medicine and surgery (MBBCh) from the University of Calabar.
While in school, she was involved in rendering humanitarian services to people and this has been the foundation for her medical practice and humanitarian work.
Dr Betta has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health for Developing Countries from London School Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK, Master of Science Public Health in Developing Countries from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK, and Doctor of Public Health from Texila American University.

Dr Betta Edu is a loving mother and wife. She is married to Mr Edu and they both have two children together.
Professional Career
During her compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) programme in Cross River State, she served as Chief Medical Director at the Cross River State Camp Clinic and a Medical Officer at the Government House Clinic as the Team Leader.
In 2011, she served as a Locum Medical Officer and House Officer in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar delivering emergency medical care to people.
In 2013, she was the medical officer at the State Ministry of Health staff clinic and was appointed Public Health Consultant in the Department of Community and Primary Health Care, Cross River State and this position led to reviews of health policies and strategies for an efficient delivery of health services to the public.
Political career
Dr. Betta Edu being driven by her strong belief in excellence, integrity, hard work, resilience and diligence started her political journey during her school days in the university of Calabar.
She was the Youth President, Jesus Action Ministry International in 2001 -2008.
In 2005, she was the Treasurer of Cross River State Medical Students association.
She also was the Vice President of the Student Union Government at the university between 2007 and 2008, She also served as the president of the female leadership forum, University of Calabar.
In 2009 to 2010, she was appointed the Editor in Chief of the Syringe Magazine which is the official magazine of the Calabar University Medical Student Association (CUMSA), she was the Vice President Association of House Officers, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
Between 2011and 2012, she was the Secretary of Medical Committee of Presidential and Governorship campaign and the Secretary, Cross River State Commissioners Forum.
In 2016, she became the first Director General, of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (CRSPHCDA) until 2019.
Dr Betta Edu’s political career was brought to limelight during Senator Ben Ayade tenure as governor of Cross River State when she was appointed Special Adviser to the governor on Community and primary Healthcare in 2015.
In 2020, during the COVID- 19 pandemic, Dr Betta Edu was made chairman of the Cross River State COVID-19 Taskforce.
Later was promoted to the position of the National Chairman of the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum.
She emerged as the National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2022 at the APC National Convention.
In July 2023, the state Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 36 states passed a vote of confidence on Betta Edu during their visit to the president in Abuja.
