The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 of its officers for allegedly stealing operational items, including foreign currency and gold exhibits.
The detention is part of the commission’s efforts to rid itself of corrupt practices.
According to a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, the officers were arrested last week on the directives of the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. The statement noted that investigators are making significant progress, and those found guilty will face internal disciplinary processes.
The development comes after the EFCC recently dismissed 27 personnel for involvement in fraudulent activities. A non-governmental organization, Journalists Against Corruption, has commended the EFCC for taking decisive action against erring officers, describing it as a commitment to rid the commission of bad eggs.
