A social media user – Prince Bassey has called out First City Monument Bank (FCMB), for allegedly withholding funds meant for his younger sister’s hospital bill at the expense of her life.
Prince Bassey who cried out on Linkeldin, adding that his sister’s life is at stake, said the money in question was sent to FCMB since August 12 via WorldRemit while the bank has deliberately failed to remit same into his account since then.
He also alleged that despite several calls put across to the bank drawing its attention to the delay and the exigency of the situation, he was persistently told that the money which was pending at the time is being traced by the bank to ascertain what was holding it.
Bassey who maintained that FCMB has been lackadaisical and has failed to come forward with tangible explanations regarding what was withholding the money, said he feels it’s not right.
According to him, WORLDREMIT, a payment service available to Beneficiaries in Nigeria as Cash Pick Up or Account Deposit Remittances – the platform on which the money was sent, confirmed that the Money was received by FCMB the same day, but at the time he took to social media to decry his predicament, FCMB was yet to release the money he said meant to offset medical bills of his dying sister.
Some of his outcry captured on LinkedIn are reproduced below verbatim:
He wrote: “Please Everyone on LinkedIn just listen to how this Bank deliberately don’t want to credit my account the money sent to them through WORLDREMIT since on the 12th of August…
I’ve called them time without number but keep telling me that money is pending that they are tracing what is holding the money does that sound right.
“The life of my junior sister is in the hands of FCMB if she dies you people should know it’s out of you people Wickedness for not given genuine reason for holding the money
“Everyone should come help me beg FCMB to credit my money meant for the treatment of my hospitalized sister”.

FCMB And A Deluge Of Scandals
FCMB is not new to scandals and this may be another one of such kind. From incessant service downtime to alleged sex scandals, alleged fraud – they have had it all.
For Instance, in 2020, the bank was enmeshed in a multi-million naira scandal involving a controversial cleric, Prophet Emmanuel Omale, the general overseer of Divine Hand of God Prophetic Ministries International.
In the media report which went viral, it was alleged that Prophet Omale had received N573 million to purchase a property in Dubai for Ibrahim Magu, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The said transaction bypassed due process, hence Adam Nuru, managing director of FCMB, was invited by the presidential investigation commission of inquiry for questioning.
In a bland and vague defense, Nuru while admitted that there was an error on the alleged money credited to Omale.
As though it weren’t enough, in 2021, yet again Adam Nuru was enmeshed in a paternity scandal that shook the bank to its very roots.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that till date, the sex scandal involving Adam Nuru and a married subordinate, Moyo Thomas remains fresh in the heart of aggrieved Nigerians and friends of Tunde Thomas, husband to Moyo who died in the process after finding out the true paternity of the children he thought were originally his.
Although FCMB attempted a cover up which was later reversed after aggrieved Nigerians took to social media to protest vehemently, it is pertinent to state that Adam Nuru’s case was not the first time an FCMB MD would be caught in the web of alleged sexual scandal.
ENigeria Newspaper recalls that years back, Ladi Balogun who succeeded his now late dad as Chief Executive of the bank was also caught in the crossfire of an alleged sex scandal.
In the case of Ladi Balogun whose marriage to Banke crashed sometime in the year 2017, he was allegedly accused by Murphy Uzohe, husband of a fashionista, Uju Murphy in a public outcry that occupied headlines in the traditional media back then. READ THE FULL STORY HERE
FCMB AND NETWORK GLITCHES IN 2021
In July 2021, Premium Times reported that Some customers of FCMB expressed dissatisfaction with the bank’s services following widespread network glitches across the country.
The bank’s customers took to Twitter and other social networking sites to express their anger amid frustrations occasioned by their inability to operate their accounts.
The network concerns began amid uncertainty over the cause of the challenge. Despite a notice of service disruption which FCMB had already hinted its customers were going to be resolved shortly after it concluded a routine upgrade, the bank failed to resolve the issue as customers groaned over the persistent downtimes.
Some of the customers who were already frustrated, took to their social media handles to call out the bank.
Other customers took to some branches of FCMB to lament their plight, hence causing a rowdy scenario. Others complained of the inability to use their ATM cards from their remote places.
On Twitter, the bank was being called out by customers who expressed frustration over the development.
A Twitter user, @Unclemidetuch, wrote: “FCMB, day 4 of network failure. What sort of rubbish?! Repeated reversal, no access to mobile app, transaction(s) declined. I’m about to lose it…”
Nchekwube Augustus, another complainant, wrote:
“Fcmb, what is your problem? Since Thursday we can’t have assess or transact with our accounts in Fcmb. What type of Network challenges is that, are we serious at all in this country.”
@Ay_Shemzy, another user, said: “FCMB has to be the most unreliable bank in the world. How can your network be down since Friday???”
