Below is the brief profile of late Supreme Court Justice CC Nweze who died on.
Justice C C Nweze is the third Supreme Court Justice to die in two years reducing the number of SC Justices to 16, I think. Out of the 3, he and Justice Sylvester Ngwuta (Ebonyi state) were from the SE while he got his LLB (Hons) degree from the same University of Nigeria Law faculty with late Justice Samuel Chukwudumebi Oseji (Delta state) almost around the same time.
Nweze attended St. John Cross Seminary Nsukka where he made Grade 1 distinction in WASCE in 1977. He went ahead to study Law at UNN during the Shehu Shagari presidency between 1979-1983. In his final year, he represented all Nigeria law faculties at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
He completed his law school while Buhari was Head of State in 1984 and finished his NYSC under IBB in 1985. While practicing Law, he went back to UNN and got his Masters in Law in 1995. He also got his PhD in Law from the same university. He had published about 11 books and 10 articles in reputable international journals.
He was famous for being the only SC Justice that opposed the declaration of Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo state in January 2020.
He had more than five years left to stay at the Supreme Court until the statutory 70 years age of retirement. Nigeria has lost a great man of law. May he rest in peace!
