Governor Uba Sani has approved the release of more than 90 inmates serving sentences for minor offences in Kaduna State, directing that their fines and compensations be settled to facilitate their freedom.

The decision, announced on Wednesday, forms part of activities marking the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, and made available to ENigeria Newspaper, the governor authorised the intervention as a humanitarian gesture aimed at giving deserving inmates a second chance and promoting reconciliation across communities.

ENigeria Newspaper gathered that the administration would cover financial penalties imposed on the affected convicts, enabling their immediate release from correctional facilities.

Governor Sani, in a message to residents, congratulated Muslims in Kaduna, across Nigeria and globally on the commencement of Ramadan. He prayed that the period would bring spiritual strength, serenity and divine blessings.

Describing Ramadan as more than abstinence from food and drink, the governor characterised it as a period of moral renewal and self-discipline. He urged adherents to use the season to deepen devotion, practise charity and strengthen communal bonds.

The statement noted that the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent presents a unique opportunity for reflection, compassion and peaceful coexistence among citizens of different faiths.

Sani called on the freed inmates to embrace their renewed opportunity responsibly by living peacefully, obeying the law and contributing positively to society. He urged them to seek forgiveness where necessary and commit to lives of integrity and service.

The governor also encouraged residents to extend support to vulnerable persons during the sacred seasons by sharing food and resources, stressing that the dignity of every individual must be upheld.

Reaffirming his administration’s broader agenda, Sani said the gesture aligns with ongoing efforts to consolidate peace, strengthen social harmony and promote sustainable development in Kaduna State.

He appealed to citizens of all faiths to continue praying for unity and stability, noting that Kaduna’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths and that the people share a common destiny.
