Controversial Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo famously known as Sunday Igboho is reportedly stranded and desperate as he seeks assistance from the newly installed Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja and other prominent figures in Yoruba land.
ENigeria News reports that Sunday Igboho whose Soka residence was raided in Ibadan by a joint team of men from the Department of State Services, backed by soldiers in 2021 has been struggling financially ever since, especially after the federal government froze his accounts.
It would be recalled that during the raid on his house on the accusation of stockpiling arms, two of his aides were killed and several live ammunitions were recovered, leading to his escape to the Republic of Benin and onwards to Germany where he now partly resides with his family.
“Igboho’s lingering dispute with the Federal Government under the late President Muhammadu Buhari led to him being declared wanted. Sources who spoke to ENigeria News confirmed that he has since been surviving largely through the goodwill of kindhearted Nigerians sympathetic to his cause.”
This is newspaper reports that Igboho, obviously frustrated, is gradually trying to warm his way back into the scene and since President Tinubu emerged as President in 2023.
On Monday, along with his supported, the Yoruba Nationa activist visited the Bodija residence of Oba Ladoja where both men held a 40-minute meeting.
In a statement released by his media representative and seen by this newspaper on Wednesday said the discussions centred on insecurity in the South-West, bandit attacks in parts of Kwara State, and Igboho’s lingering issues with the Federal Government.
“The Olubadan promised to intervene on the challenges faced by Igboho, including his designation as a wanted person and the embargo placed on his bank accounts,” the statement read in part.
It would be recalled that in 2021, the Department of State Services, backed by soldiers, raided Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan, killing two of his aides and arresting 13 others, after accusing him of stockpiling arms.
During the visit, Igboho congratulated Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, describing him as a leader loved across Ibadan and Yorubaland. He also expressed readiness to work with the Federal Government to strengthen security in the region.
“Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his time as governor.
His reign will no doubt further promote peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland and Yorubaland,” Igboho said.
