Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have maintained control of key positions in Borno State following a wave of coordinated night assaults, recovering a cache of weapons and neutralising eight insurgents in the process, ENigeria Newspaper gathered.
The attempted incursions targeted Forward Operating Bases in Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram between late February 28 and the early hours of March 2. Military authorities said the attacks were repelled after intense exchanges, with ground forces supported by reinforcements and air assets.
The spokesperson for the operation, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, disclosed that the heaviest confrontation occurred at Mayanti, where troops withstood sustained gunfire from a large group of attackers. Reinforcements reportedly navigated ambush points and improvised explosive device threats to stabilise the position. After the clash, five bodies were recovered alongside automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and assorted ammunition. One officer was killed during the engagement.
“On 28 February 2026, FOB Mayanti came under heavy attack by a large number of terrorists. Gallant troops held firm despite intense enemy fire, as reinforcements fought through ambush and IED threats to rout the attackers.
“While the attack on Gajigana was successfully thwarted by troops maintaining full control of their position, the encounters at Mayanti and Gajiram resulted in significant terrorist casualties and the recovery of substantial combat equipment’, he confirmed.
At about 1:15 a.m. on March 1, another group of fighters launched an assault on the Gajiram base, deploying heavy weapons and an armed drone. The attack was repelled through coordinated ground resistance and aerial support. Three bodies were later found along the withdrawal route, together with rifles, explosive devices and loaded magazines. A wounded soldier was airlifted for further medical attention.
The base at Gajigana also came under pressure but remained firmly under military control, according to officials.
In separate operations, troops operating in Sector 2 engaged fleeing fighters at Kayawa Village, forcing them to abandon transport items believed to support their mobility network. Security forces also dismantled identified support structures and arrested two suspected logistics suppliers linked to insurgent elements.
Further ambush operations around Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area led to additional recoveries of arms and equipment, reinforcing the military’s claim that insurgent supply chains are increasingly disrupted.
Authorities say all affected locations remain secure, adding that the scale of recoveries underscores ongoing efforts to degrade the operational strength of insurgent groups active in the North-East.
