Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi SAN is  currently serving as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after appointment by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is a well known lawyer and judge who have preceded over several cases.

Biography

He was born on the 16th of July, 1959 in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from the University of Lagos in 1984. He was called to Bar a year later and afterwards, acquired a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from the same University in 1987.

In 1998, he became a senior advocate of Nigeria.

 

Career

After being called to Bar, he served with Gani Fanwehimi and associates before establishing his own law firm, Lateef Fagbemi and co.

Fagbemi has been involved in many high-profile cases, including election petitions and other constitutional matters. Due to his advocacy skills and contributions to the legal system, he was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

He has also served as a judge in different Nigerian courts, including the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal. Presently, he is the All-Progressive Congresses (APC) team lead attorney to Defend the 2023 presidential election result in court.

 

In August 2023, he was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation by the incumbent president.
