Nyesom Wike is an Ikwerre man from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State. He was born on the 12th of December,1963.

His parents are Reverend and Mrs Nlemanya Wike but there are no details on Wike’s siblings.
He is married to Mrs Eberechi Suzzette Nyewom Wike, a high court judge under the Rivers State Judiciary and they have three lovely children; Jazmyne, Joaquin and Jordan Wike.
Education
He obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Rivers State University of Technology before proceeding to Law School in 1997, Wike also holds a Master of Arts degree in Political and Administrative Studies from RSUT. Prior to this, he had his West African Senior School Certificate at Government Secondary School Eneka in Obiakpor, Rivers State .
Career
Wike began as legal practitioner before switching into politics. He was appointed the Executive Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers in 1999, a position he held until 2007, after being re-elected in 2003.
In 2007, he was appointed as the chief of staff to the governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi. In July 2011, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Education by President Goodluck Jonathan and was promoted to Federal Minister of Education in September 2013.
He resigned as Federal Minister to contest in the 2015 gubernatorial elections in his home state, Rivers State under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic party ( PDP).
During the Rivers State gubernatorial polls in 2015, Wike defeated his opponents from the All Progressive Congress ( APC) and the Labour party and was declared winner amidst several court seatings.
He also won re-election in 2019 and was sworn into office in May 2019. During his second term in office, he supervised the construction of three major flyovers simultaneously in Port Harcourt located at Garrison, Rumoukoro and Artillery.
He also made many educational reforms for indigenes of Rivers State.
In 2022, he signed a bill into law that strengthens a women’s right to inherit property.
In May 2022, he contested for the People’s Democratic Party presidential ticket but lost to Atiku Abubakkar.
In 2023, Nyesom Wike’s name was among the ministerial nominees who were screened and cleared.
In August 2023, he was appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
