The Delta State Police has identified a teen hacker, aged 17 years, who allegedly hacks into celebrities’ WhatsApp accounts and sells explicit materials to fellow students.

ENigeria Newspaper learnt this during a Delta State security awareness programme that held in the weekend. During a media chat with popular comedian I Go Save within the programme, the The Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division, Uvwie Local Government Area, Temi Agbede-Zuokumor uploaded a video to tell the story of this teenager.

The DPO cnfirmed that the that suspicion was raised during a normal check of a student’s phone, which led to the discovery of the case. She clarified that, at first, the student’s mother had first said the phone belonged to his sister, but more investigation showed that the phone in fact belonged to the boy.

“Something told me to check the phone. When we did, we discovered that everything on the device belonged to the boy.

“The woman looked very modest, so I asked her if she was from Deeper Life. She said no. I then asked why her son took a phone to school, and she claimed it belonged to his sister,” the DPO said.

“We found several foreign numbers, over 80 Australian lines, and the phone was filled with pornographic content. We also saw chats with his classmates asking if he had explicit content to sell. They were calling him ‘boss’ in school. We discovered he had access to WhatsApp accounts of some celebrities, which he used to demand money from unsuspecting victims”, the DPO added.

The police sounded a warning alarm that there is an increase in youth cybercrimes and advised parents and school administrators to exercise greater caution.

The comedian himself described a similar encounter in which he was contacted by a suspected scammer posing as Elon Musk.

“That was how someone impersonating Elon Musk messaged me, saying he was stranded and needed a recharge card. I was surprised and asked which network he used. The person later sent an Opay account,” he added.
