African champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress have maintained their 8th position in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, with a total of 700.3 points.

The team, has once again, asserted themselves as Africa’s premier women’s basketball team as the standing confirms their role as the continent’s sole representatives in the global top 10.

Released on 20th March, the new ranking comes just days after the conclusion of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments, during which D’Tigress displayed a blend of strong performances and tough losses on the international stage.

Nigeria overcame Colombia 70–37 in Lyon to start the qualifications, but South Korea upset them 77–60. After a strong comeback in the second half, they nearly lost 93-86 to France after recovering with a stunning 101-84 victory over the Philippines. They lost to Germany 81–73 in the end of the qualifying campaign, while they lost to Turkey 77–76 in a pre-qualifier friendly.

The United States continues to hold the top spot in the world standings, with France rising to second place ahead of Australia. Belgium and China complete the top five.

The only other African team in the top 20 is the Mali women’s basketball team, which is ranked 18th in the world. Senegal, Mozambique, and Cameroon are ranked 22nd, 34th, and 37th, respectively.
