Thankfully, neither Austin Eguavoen nor Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amunike, Daniel Amokachi, Sylvanus Okpala, Finidi George, Sunday Oliseh, or Mike Emenalo was in charge of the Super Eagles drawn game in Uyo against Zimbabwe…
Hell would have been let loose. We would have been hearing and reading about how incompetent indigenous coaches are…how they have refused to upgrade and update their knowledge of the game with modern rules, regulations, and evolving changes in the game…how they have continued to rely on national team appointments without developing themselves through seminars, coaching clinics, and refresher courses…how they rely on bribes from players to field them, among other negatives.
But yesterday, we saw how a world-class foreign coach threw away 3 points in less than 3 minutes to the end of a World Cup qualifier. We saw the very amateurish substitutions he made. We saw how he was pacing the touch lines, apparently bereft of ideas on how his players should checkmate the Warriors of Zimbabwe, manage the remaining seconds in the game, and secure the needed result.
We have drums that can sound loudest but chose to beat our chests with our palms. We are in a river with clean water, yet we prefer to bathe with saliva. We have our tables but prefer to dine on the bare floor. We have our beautiful wives at home but chose to run around with side chics or slay queens.
Indeed, man is insatiable, and Nigerians are proving it in all sectors, especially in the unit of sports, or do I simply say football?
Sack him, fire him, kick him out or give him the boot would have rented the air if an indigenous coach recorded that result in Uyo. But today, we hear, “The bigger task for Eric Chelle is the AFCON…”
I dare ask, which AFCON? Okay, I ask, has he failed with the World Cup qualifiers? If yes, why keep him for AFCON? Okay, are you suggesting he will win AFCON? Hahahahahaha…Oh, his contract runs till next year? And you can’t afford to pay him off? Kikikikikikikiki…Like I always say, WE ARE WATCHING…
But thank God, Cerezo, Eusebio, Da Bull, The Gazelle, Pass Master, Quick Silver, or Kpoi, among others, wasn’t in charge of the Zimbabwe game in Uyo. It is well…
