Nigeria Football Federation has approved wide-ranging reforms to its statutes and electoral framework, setting the stage for its 2026 elections, while also constituting committees to oversee the process.

ENigeria Newspaper learnt this at an Extraordinary General Assembly held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where members of Congress unanimously endorsed amendments to the federation’s statutes, electoral code, and general assembly procedures, marking a major step toward restructuring its governance ahead of the next leadership cycle.

The Congress also ratified the composition of both the Electoral Committee and the Electoral Appeals Committee, with 12 members drawn from across the six geopolitical zones. The committees are expected to be inaugurated in Abuja on March 25, where they will formally organize themselves and elect their chairmen in line with established guidelines.

Under the approved structure, the Electoral Committee will consist of five full members and two alternates, while the Appeals Committee will have three full members and two alternates, ensuring oversight and dispute resolution mechanisms for the forthcoming elections.

In a further decision, Congress appointed Ernst & Young as the federation’s new independent auditor for an initial four-year term, following what was described as a competitive selection process involving seven firms. The outgoing auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, were commended for their nine years of service.

The assembly also fixed September 26, 2026, as the date for the NFF Elective Congress, which will be held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, formally kicking off the countdown to a new leadership cycle.

In addition, members passed a vote of confidence in the NFF Executive Committee led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, applauding its efforts in advancing football development across the country.

The communiqué from the meeting was drafted by a committee chaired by Mohammed Nasir Saidu, with Hajji Gafaar Liameed, Davidson Owumi, Yakubu Salma, Coach Ladan Bosso and Dr. Ademola Olajire serving as members.
