Nigerian international and Super Eagles reserve goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has been handed a three-month suspension by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, pending an investigation into alleged match-fixing, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
The club’s Disciplinary Committee announced the suspension on Friday, stating that it was necessary to allow a thorough inquiry into the claims. The statement did not disclose any formal charges or evidence, and Tanzanian football authorities have yet to comment publicly on the matter.
Obasogie’s suspension follows a costly error during Singida Black Stars’ recent league match against Namungo FC on Thursday. Leading 1-0 deep into stoppage time, Obasogie failed to secure a seemingly routine free kick, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to score the equalizer.
In the same disciplinary move, Singida Black Stars also suspended Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho for three months over absenteeism and indiscipline. The club warned all players and staff to maintain professionalism, accountability, and respect.
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema and has been a regular participant in Super Eagles activities. He was included in Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team won bronze, serving as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
This is the second high-profile case involving a Nigerian goalkeeper in a potential match-fixing or betting scandal in recent years. Recall that ENIgeria Newspaper reported that in 2025, Maduka Okoye was suspended in Italy for two months over alleged involvement in betting-related misconduct.
