The Presidency has said the United Kingdom remains a key partner in Nigeria’s efforts to deepen its integration into global financial, technological and diplomatic systems.
ENigeria Newspaper gathered that the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, stated that Britain’s long-standing ties with Nigeria position it as an important ally in shaping the country’s global engagement and international partnerships.
He pointed out that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled trip to London presents a chance for both nations to improve ties and rethink their strategic partnership.
Prior to Tinubu’s trip to London on Tuesday, Dare made the comments in a post on his X platform on Sunday.
According to him, moments such as the recent global debate over allegations of religious persecution in Nigeria highlighted the importance of a balanced and well-informed voice from Britain, given its deep understanding of Nigeria’s political and social dynamics.
He said, “When President Tinubu arrives in London, he is not simply visiting a former colonial capital. He is engaging a nation whose financial markets, diaspora networks, universities and security institutions remain deeply intertwined with Nigeria’s trajectory.”
Dare observed that despite the United Kingdom’s strong institutional knowledge of Nigeria, London has sometimes appeared distant when contentious narratives about the country emerge in global discourse.
He stressed that renewed cooperation between both countries should go beyond trade figures and routine diplomatic visits to include frank engagement and strategic alignment.
The SA said that stronger cooperation might improve Nigeria’s access to these systems, describing the UK as a gateway to important international financial, technological, and diplomatic networks.
Dare went on to say that Tinubu’s visit offers both countries a chance to rethink their alliance and forge closer ties going forward.
“The task before both countries now is to ensure that the bridge built by history becomes a highway to the future,” he said.
