Vandalised Tinubu billboards spark tension in Ondo

The Ondo APC has called for an urgent investigation as vandalism of campaign billboards promoting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has triggered concern among members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

ENigeria Newspaper learnt that the incidents, which occurred in parts of Akure, the state capital, were brought to public attention by a pro-Tinubu group, Akure Youth for BTO. The group alleged that several billboards strategically mounted across the city were deliberately vandalised by suspected political actors seeking to disrupt mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

Its leader, Faloye Johnson, described the development as a calculated move, insisting the destruction was politically motivated and aimed at undermining grassroots support for the president’s re-election bid. The group urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible to prevent further incidents.

Reacting, Ondo APC Secretary, Alex Kalejaiye, condemned the act, distancing the party from any form of political violence or indiscipline. He, however, challenged those making allegations to provide concrete evidence to assist ongoing investigations.

“The Ondo APC condemns the destruction of any billboard properly put in place. It is not in tandem with our character as a decent and well-cultured political party,” Kalejaiye said.

He added that all affiliated groups are regarded as partners in the party’s broader objective.

“At the state secretariat, every group is perceived as an arm of the ruling party and a partner in our collective quest to deliver a million votes for President Bola Tinubu“, he added.

“We therefore challenge the group to release whatever evidence is available to the security agencies for further investigation. Anyone found culpable should be adequately sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.”

Also weighing in, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, warned that such incidents could escalate political tension if not properly handled. He called for calm among party members and the public, urging those with useful information to assist security agencies.

“Claims of surveillance evidence by the youth group must be matched with responsibility. Those in possession of such footage, if indeed credible, should release it without delay to aid identification and necessary action against the perpetrators,” Otaloro said.

The APC maintained that its focus in the state remains on mobilising support for President Tinubu across all groups and structures as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections.
