Career
He began he political career in 2009 when he was elected to represent Kebbi Central Senatorial District on the People’s Democratic party ( PDP) platform.
He switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ad contested for the gubernatorial seat of Kebbi State and he emerged winner. He also won re-election in 2019 for a second term in office.
In 2023, he contested for Kebbi Central Senatorial seat he lost to his opponent from the People’s Democratic party (PDP).
He was appointed minister of Budget and Economic Planning by president Bola Tinubu in August 2023.
Controversy
Bagudu was an accomplice of former president Sabi Abacha who was accused of $2.2 billion theft during his administration.
He was arrested and extrafited from Houston after he had set up a shell company named Doraville Properties to launder funds stolen from Nigeria.
He returned some of the money he siphoned in exchange for deportation to face trial in Nigeria but as a governor, he was immuned from questioning and prosecution.
In 2021, he was listed in Pandora Papers among the Nigerians hiding embezzled money in offshore shell companies.
Awards
In recognition of his commitment and service to the nation, former President Mohammadu Buhari conferred on him a Nigerian national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in October, 2022.
