1. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, says the Monday sit-at-home in the southeast is “dead and buried.” Speaking through his lead Counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu charged residents of the southeast to reject those using his name to dupe people.

2. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Monday, stated that there was no plan to impeach his deputy, Philip Shaibu. The Governor, however, noted that the move by Shaibu seeking a court order to stop his purported impeachment was preemptive ahead of his alleged plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

3. The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) has scheduled yet another meeting on the Niger Crisis. The regional body had met in Abuja and issued a 7-day deadline for the Niger junta to reinstate ousted President Mohamed Bazoum or risk sanctions, including possible military intervention.

4. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has suspended its National Secretary, Mr. Oladipupo Olayokun, from the ward level.
Olayokun was unanimously suspended by its ward executives for alleged involvement in anti-party activities and dereliction of duty.

5. All Progressive Congress (APC) Professionals Council has chided the ranks of opposition parties in the country, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) for coming under intense pressure over the emergence of the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the national chairman of the APC.

6. The Senate on Monday confirmed 45 out of the 48 persons nominated as ministers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They were confirmed after eight days of screening. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio said 45 nominees were confirmed, while the remaining three, former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir Elrufai (Kaduna), Abubakar Sani Danladi (Taraba) and Stella Okotete (Delta) were awaiting security clearance.

7. The Federal Government on Monday backtracked and withdrew its contempt suit against leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress for organising nationwide anti-subsidy protests on August 2, 2023. The Federal Ministry of Justice sued the organised labour leaders for allegedly disobeying a court order barring them from leading the nationwide protest.

9. Officials of the FCT Administration (FCTA) have demolished the Lugbe Building Materials Market in Abuja. The market, which houses businesses for the thriving building industry in the FCT, sits under electricity transmission lines and on a road corridor for the Ring Road 3 project, which officials said necessitated the demolition.

10. A mob has beaten a yet-to-be-identified policeman to a stupor after a man identified simply as Yusuf got rammed by a BRT bus from the impact of being allegedly pushed by policemen in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
