A 67-year-old man named Chief Augustine Nwalieze has reportedly been slain by his gateman in the Ajah neighborhood of Lagos State for unknown reasons.

The deceased, who was apparently a manager at Okeyson Transport, was attacked at his Ajah home on Saturday morning just as he was getting ready to leave. The tragedy has devastated the family, according to a family member who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity.

He described how the man found dead, had gone downstairs to his home’s parking lot, where a solar panel and spare parts from his cars were stored.

“My father-in-law’s gateman, Abdullahi Dairu, killed him on Saturday. He had prepared for outing, when the incident happened. He walked downstairs to the car park, close to the store where spare parts from his cars are kept and a solar panel was stored,” the source said.

He claimed that the family got concerned when they saw that none of the deceased’s cars had been relocated and that all phone calls to him were unsuccessful.

“Nobody could really tell what happened. They didn’t hear the sound of any car driving off or the gate opening. His three cars were still parked, so, they became worried about his whereabouts. They called his phone, but he didn’t pick up,” he added.

“They went to Abdullahi Dairu, and he mentioned one of his friends, claiming he went out with him. But when the wife called that same friend, he said he hadn’t seen him that day,” the source said, stressing that it was then suspicion began to fall on the gateman”, he added.

The suspicion was further heightened when it was reported that Abdullahi Dairu ran away soon after providing the information.

“By the time they returned to question him again, he had disappeared. That was when they began to search the compound thoroughly. They found his lifeless body in one of the flats downstairs. He had machete cuts on his head, hands, and body. It was a terrible sight,” the source added.

The victim was sent to a neighboring hospital right away, but upon arrival, it was determined that he was dead.

ENigeria Newspaper also gathered from Vanguard that at the time of the occurrence, the deceased was upstairs with his wife, daughter, two servants, and another woman. It was reported that the deceased’s other children were living and working on their own.
