Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has stated that energy generation has improved during the past two weeks, from March 28 to April 10, 2026 as he promised to fulfill the promise he made to Nigerians three weeks ago.

Bolaji Tunji, Special Advisor to Adelabu on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, said in a statement in Abuja yesterday and obtained by ENigeria Newspaper that the steady increase in generation output during the period was consistent with the minister’s promise to improve supply within two weeks, despite the fact that electricity supply is unreliable in many parts of the country.

“Despite minor fluctuations recorded on some days, the overall trajectory points to a gradual recovery in the power sector, driven largely by improved gas supply and better coordination among critical stakeholders,” the statement said.

According to the Special Advisor who stood in for the minister and cited data from the time under examination, real power generation indicated a steady upward trend, rising from over 3,951MW on March 28 to over 4,300MW by April 10. In addition, he clarified that the constant rise in gas supply to thermal power plants, which increased from over 605 million standard cubic feet (mmscfd) to over 704 mmscfd during the same period, was strongly correlated with this improvement.

Adelabu also noted that operational availability increased from roughly 4,208MW to a peak of over 4,694MW, suggesting improved efficiency in turning available gas into power, while mechanical availability stayed steady and even improved, peaking at over 7,796MW in early April.

“The committee is expected to address bottlenecks in gas delivery, enhance synergy between gas producers and power generation companies, and ultimately guarantee a more stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.

“The minister remains committed to ensuring that the modest gains recorded are not only sustained but significantly improved upon in the coming weeks,” the statement added.

The minister himself has said, in keeping with the administration’s overarching goal of stabilizing the country’s energy sector, has personally promised Nigerians that continued reforms and focused interventions in the industry will continue to produce quantifiable gains in power generation and supply.

The Minister gave a speech over the weekend when Olusegun Adesayo, the agency’s recently appointed Managing Director and CEO of Management of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), visited his office.

“We are not there yet, but we will continue to ensure measurable improvements,” the minister pointed out.

“We need to ensure more installers are trained in order to accelerate the government’s plan to bridge the meter gap in the country. We should plan towards having them in each of the geo-political zones. Having the working tools really matters. If you have the people, you have the office, you have the vehicle, but you do not have meter testing centres, that is not good,” Adelabu explained.

Despite Adelabu’s promises and his claims of the fulfilling his promises, Nigerians still decry incessant power outage. Recently, power outage notices have been handed to a couple of northern states. Last week, a notice was also handed to a few parts of Lagos for some periods of time.
