Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has paid a heartfelt tribute to two of his close friends who were killed in a car crash in Ogun State last December by getting their names tattooed on his right bicep.
The British-Nigerian boxing star etched the names “LATZ” and “SINA” beneath an outline of Africa, commemorating Latif “Latz” Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach.
The tattoo, done at Fulham Tattoo London, joins Joshua’s collection of meaningful body art, which also features biblical quotes and family symbols, reflecting loyalty and the enduring impact of those who helped him rise from Olympic gold in 2012 to world championship titles.
The tribute follows the tragic December 29, 2025 accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Makun in Ogun State, as reported by ENigeria Newspaper. Joshua was a passenger in a black Lexus SUV when the vehicle, carrying four occupants, collided with a stationary truck.
While initial reports suggested a tire burst, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) cited excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the main causes. Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami died instantly, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was later discharged from a local hospital before returning to the United Kingdom.
The driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was arrested and faces four charges, including dangerous driving causing death and driving without a valid license. He was granted bail of 5 million Naira, with the Sagamu Magistrate Court adjourning the trial to February 25, 2026, to allow the Ogun State Attorney General to provide further legal guidance.
Joshua has previously mourned his friends publicly and this tattoo adds a deeply personal layer to his remembrance, symbolising both grief and loyalty to those who shaped his career and life.
