Despite persistent attacks and rising security concerns across parts of the country, President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria will ultimately defeat insurgency and banditry.

Speaking on Saturday at the annual Argungu International Fishing Festival in Argungu town, Kebbi State, Tinubu expressed confidence that the ongoing fight against insecurity would be won, assuring citizens that the government remained committed to restoring lasting peace nationwide.

“The fight against banditry, insurgency, and insecurity will be won,” the President said. “Our farmers, fishermen, traders, and families will go about their lawful activities without fear.”

His remarks come amid continued reports of attacks in several states, even as authorities highlight improved security coordination and intelligence-sharing efforts. Tinubu attributed the relative calm currently experienced in Kebbi and neighbouring states to sustained investments in security intelligence, enhanced collaboration among security agencies, and stronger community engagement.

Addressing a large gathering at the Argungu festival, the President described the cultural event as a testament to Nigeria’s resilience despite its security challenges. He noted that the festival, which has endured for 83 years, symbolises unity and peaceful coexistence.

“Today, this festival stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and peaceful coexistence among our people,” Tinubu said.

“It reflects the richness of our culture, the strength of our traditions, and the opportunities inherent in harnessing our natural and human resources for national development.”

He assured farmers and fishermen of sustained federal support to boost food security and guarantee safety, reiterating his administration’s commitment to youth and women empowerment, irrigation development, rural electrification, and increased agricultural productivity.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, in his earlier remarks, pledged to elevate the Argungu Fishing Festival to full international standards while pursuing aggressive development across key sectors of the state.

Tinubu was received by a large crowd of residents, traditional rulers, fishermen, tourists, and government officials from across the country, even as security concerns continue to cast a shadow over parts of the nation.
