At the resumed proceedings on Thursday, prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to impose the maximum penalty prescribed by law on Nnamdi Kanu.
“Hand Nnamdi Kanu the maximum sentence.” Those were the exact words of the prosecution urging the court as the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu was fixed for 3:50 pm on Thursday evening.
ENigeria News reports that Awomolo argued that Kanu’s alleged misuse of social media had contributed significantly to public disorder, insisting that strict measures were necessary both before and after sentencing.
He asked the court to restrict Kanu’s access to social media platforms pending the full execution of whatever sentence is handed down.
The prosecution further requested that Kanu be transferred to what Awomolo described as “the safest custodial facility available anywhere in Nigeria,” expressing doubts about the security integrity of the Kuje Correctional Centre.
