President Bola Tinubu on Friday convened a private meeting with key government figures, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tanudeen Abbas, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and several state governors at the Presidential Villa, Aso Villa.

ENigeria Newspaper gathered that the meeting, whose agenda was not disclosed, comes in the wake of an alleged attempt to arrest former Kaduna State governor and Nasir El-Rufai at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Security sources said the attempt involved officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and that El-Rufai’s passport was temporarily seized —a claim yet to be officially confirmed.

El-Rufai, a former member of the ruling All Progressives Congress who helped President Tinubu secure the 2023 election, has been openly critical of the administration after being dropped as a ministerial nominee. He has vowed to mobilize opposition forces against a potential second term for the President.

Also present at the meeting were the governors of Kaduna, Uba Sani; Kwara, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq; and Benue, Hyacinth Alia, along with the CEO of God is Good Motors, Chidi Ajaere. While AbdulRasaq departed with the NSA, Alia left without granting comments.

Officials at the Presidency have not provided details on the discussions, leaving political observers to speculate about possible connections to the airport incident and broader security concerns.
