Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment process gathers new momentum as 26 PDP lawmakers believed to be loyal to Nyesom Wike have reportedly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
ENigeria News reports that as the Minister of FCT continues to wield his political might in Rivers State politics in what has been described as an attempt to undermine his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, it appears that the stage is now set for the battle of a lifetime, this is as insiders informed this newspaper that respite may not be in sight going by current tension in the state orchestrated by the audacious move to impeach the governor.
This newspaper reports that the defection of the 26 lawmakers who were former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was announced during Monday’s sitting at the House sending the entire scenario into a frenzy of some sort.
The latest development has seen the aggrieved 26 lawmakers forming a formidable opposition given that they now have a majority in the House of Assembly.
ENigeria News reports that in light of the new reality, moves to impeach Governor Fubara may have entered a second phase since he is now at the mercy of the majority members of the house believed to be loyal to his predecessor.
Out of the 32 lawmakers in the house, only 6 are said to be allies of the governor, an indication that only a well-calculated political negotiation can save the governor when the stage is finally set for his impeachment proceeding.
