Olufemi Ayilara, a UK-based tech expert, has shared his insights on Nigeria’s vibrant technological landscape, highlighting the potential of tech start-ups, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and innovation to drive economic growth and transformation.

According to Ayilara, Nigeria’s tech ecosystem is poised for significant advancement, driven by the adoption of digital technologies, government initiatives, and the ingenuity of tech entrepreneurs. He cited success stories like Flutterwave and Paystack as examples of Nigerian tech start-ups that have achieved global acclaim.

Ayilara emphasized the importance of addressing challenges such as inconsistent power supply, regulatory bottlenecks, and a digital skills gap to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. He also highlighted the need for collaboration between government bodies, private investors, and international tech partners to drive innovation and growth.

On the topic of AI, Ayilara noted that while AI offers immense potential for economic growth and innovation, it also raises ethical, security, and privacy concerns. He emphasized the need for developing countries like Nigeria to adopt global AI ethics standards, establish strong regulatory frameworks, and invest in public awareness campaigns to mitigate these risks.

Ayilara also discussed the potential impact of AI on job displacement, emphasizing the need for workforce reskilling and upskilling to prepare citizens for the jobs of the future. He highlighted the importance of education and training programs that focus on emerging industry needs, such as AI, software engineering, data science, and automation.

In addition, Ayilara explored the range of unexplored or virgin IT products or services in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting opportunities in sectors such as AgriTech, HealthTech, EduTech, and GreenTech.
