Former presidential candidate under the Labour Party and ADC Chieftain Peter Obi as revealed where Nigeria can make money and generate wealth aside the ever-booming oil sector.

The former Anambra state governor made this revelation when he appeared on Arise TV Prime Time show on Monday, as monitored by ENigeria Newspaper correspondent, discussing a plethora of issues including what Nigerians should expect from him should he get the presidential ticket and voted in as the president come 2027 general elections.

When asked how he planned to make Nigeria a powerhouse again, the ADC chieftain said he has plans to focus on the north as the region has every resources to generate economic wealth for the country. He revealed that agriculture, and not oil, shall be his centre of business if he gets into power, stressing that the agricultural sector can generate money more for Nigeria than oil.

Obi said that the North was not a burden on the national economy, but rather an underused asset that a dedicated government could turn into a bigger source of income than oil.

“Nobody can do what I intend to do in the North. We will change the North. Our greatest asset as a country is in the North. We can make more money from agriculture than we make from oil,” he said.

He said that the northern region has the most economic potential for Nigeria and that he plans to change it through farming, security, and investment at the local level.

He added, “If we want to secure the North, we must invest in agriculture, reduce poverty, and improve education and healthcare.”

He went on to say that winning the North wasn’t about getting support from powerful people; it was about directly addressing the poverty, insecurity, and lack of access to education and healthcare that have held the region back.

When asked if he would need help from politicians like Nasir El-Rufai and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to make progress in the region, he said he would be happy to work with them.

“I will work with them so they can support the process, but Nigeria is bigger than individuals,” he said.

Obi also commented on the ADC national convention scheduled to hold today at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja, as reported by ENigeria Newspaper. He clarified that the party is ready to forge on with its plan despite risks of not recognising the event by the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) which had asked the party to halt all activities for now.

Peter Obi aspiration

Peter Obi recently earned a level of favour in the eyes of some northerners after he visited and was received by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the head of the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano state. There are political calculations that the duo are expected to be the party’s flagbearer for the presidential positions.
