People in the Woro community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State expressed anger and frustration after a group that was supposedly sent by the Nigerian government brought items like mats, buckets, and school bags to families who were hurt by a recent deadly terrorist attack.
ENigeria Newspaper gathered this in a viral video on Monday, and learnt that residents who were grieving angrily turned down the items, saying they were an insult to their dignity given how much they had lost.
It was said that the delegation brought the things in an ambulance and said they were sent by the government.
However, the people in the community wouldn’t accept the supplies, saying that their most urgent need was not relief items but safety and the immediate rescue of their kidnapped family members.
The anger comes after reports that terrorists thought to be linked to Boko Haram killed more than 200 people in the area. Along with the mass killings, at least 176 women and children were taken during the attack and are still being held. People in the area said that many of the victims who were kidnapped are wives and children of people who were killed, which makes the humanitarian crisis worse.
“We don’t need these things. What we want is security and the return of our people”, some of the residents cried out in the video.
The abducted victims, who were taken from the Woro and Kososo communities, looked weak, tired, and in terrible shape.
When the terrorists gave one of them a chance to speak, she said, “Please, we are begging you, this is the last opportunity they gave us. We have small children with us and some pregnant women. Please assist us.”
They abducted residents were captured on the 3rd of February, 2026.
