After being abducted by terrorists, John Arum, a UniJos graduate, has finally been released.

In a video footage that is circulating on social media, John, the UniJos graduate, was seen thanking God for his release alongside family members.

Recall that ENigeria Newspaper revealed that a horrific video showed the attackers violently abusing John after he was abducted along the Jos-Kaduna highway.

Joseph Azi, the victim’s brother, confirmed that the abductors initially demanded N30 million before reducing the sum to N5 million with other confidential information about the Unijos graduate that the family does not want to disclose.

According to Azi, the family had to contact certain individuals in order to raise money online after the abductors gave them a video of them severely assaulting his brother. When asked if security services had been notified of the problem, Azi declined to comment.

However, there are no reports yet about whether the full ransom was paid or not for the release of the Unijos graduate.

Reactions to the abduction of Unijos graduate

ENigeria Newspaper reported that the National Association of Nigerian Students denounced the kidnapping and gave the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government 48 hours to obtain his release, threatening to launch a statewide student protest if they didn’t.

Additionally, the Plateau State Police Command stated that it has not yet received a formal report regarding the incident.

“We have not gotten that report yet. I am not aware of any report of such, though we have been seeing it. When we get a report, then we can say something about it. Mind you, when crisis just happened, you see people recycling videos. So, we have to investigate it to be sure it’s not an old video”, Alfred Alabo, the police spokesperson, had said.

The case of the John Arum, a UNIJOS graduate, is one of the many cases of kidnappings and abductions that are rampant in the county as a result of insecurity. Recently, cases reports have intensified while the federal government is not helping matters.
