President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic ties with foreign countries with the help of former Nigeria’s Most Beautiful Girl.
The former winner of the prestigious award back in 1988, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has now been promoted to the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Bianca, then named Bianca Onoh but would later got married to Biafran warlord Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has been elevated to the position of minister after Yusuf Tuggar who held the position resigned to contest for the post of governorship of Bauchi state.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The House of Senate is now set to confirm her appointment as new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Similarly, the Senate is set to confirm President’s nomination of Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The Kogi State man was the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and International Relations prior to his nomination. With more than thirty years of excellent service in Nigeria’s foreign service, he is a renowned diplomat and seasoned public worker.
In the past, Enikanolaiye held important diplomatic positions in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi while serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
While congratulating the appointees, President Tinubu asked them to work hard to advance economic diplomacy, promote Nigeria’s national interest, maintain regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both domestically and internationally.
The President stated that these appointments are a part of continuous attempts to realign Nigeria’s foreign policy framework for increased effectiveness, strategic involvement, and more robust international alliances.
