Plans for a long-anticipated heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reportedly been revived, with a new agreement in principle said to have been reached behind the scenes.
The development was disclosed by British boxing correspondent Gareth A. Davies during the weekend at a fight card in Dublin. He revealed that both fighters are keen on making the bout happen after earlier plans for the contest were halted.
According to Davies, “The Fury-Joshua fight is signed. Okay, it is signed in the background. I’ve got that on good authority.”
The proposed fight had initially been scheduled for this summer but was delayed after Joshua was involved in a car accident in Nigeria in December that claimed the lives of two of his close friends, leaving uncertainty over his boxing future and postponing his return to the ring.
Joshua is now reportedly preparing to resume full training and could stage a comeback fight in July before pursuing the blockbuster encounter with Fury.
Davies added that the potential bout could attract major broadcasting interest, hinting that the fight may be streamed on Netflix.
“It’s with the big money people. It’ll be on Netflix. It’s agreed. They are moving towards it, but they both want the fight. It’s on the cards and it’s going to happen,” he said.
While the exact date remains undecided, organisers are believed to be considering a window later this year or early 2027. Fury, who previously announced his retirement, is scheduled to return to the ring against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. Meanwhile, Joshua has gradually resumed light training and sparring as he works towards a full comeback.
Even though both fighters are nearing the end of their careers, they are still among the most commercially successful heavyweights in boxing.
Hence, should the fight be confirmed, it will end one of the most talked-about rivalries in the sport.
