Yakubu Aiyegbeni said that the Victor Osimhen factor played a major role in why the Super Eagles lost out at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Aiyegbeni, “over-reliance on Osimhen cost the Super Eagles a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
It would be recalled that Osimhen scored a hat-trick against Gabon to help the Super Eagles secure a place in the final of the African playoffs.
ENigeria News reports that the Galatasaray striker was substituted during halftime of Nigeria’s final defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which affected the team’s performance.
The Super Eagles have also never lost a game when Osimhen scored or provided an assist.
Aiyegbeni blasted the other strikers for not living up to expectations.
“We have, like, four other strikers, but only one delivers. Only one plays like a madman on the pitch. He’s aggressive and livid when things go wrong,” Aiyegbeni said on the Home Turf podcast.
“We only have Osimhen. I think the rest are just happy to be in the national team.”
