The Anambra State House of Assembly has received a new list of commissioner nominations from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, which includes a grieving mother of a kidnapped victim who was killed as the proposed Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.
Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has nominated Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, the late businessman Martin Onyekesi’s mother, widely known as “Fish Magnet,” for Commissioner for Women Affairs.
ENigeria Newspaper recalled that the kidnappers who assassinated Onyekesi last year stashed his body in another part of Awka before a ransom could be paid.
The incident had sparked protests, one of which was led by prominent social media activist Martin Vincent Otse, also known as Very Dark Man. In the process, several state candidates for governor attempted to politicize the murder, but Mrs. Onyekesi, the Women Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, or APGA, and mother of the deceased, insisted that it had nothing to do with politics.
According to a statement sent by Franklin Osankwa, SA to the Governor on New Media in the Office of the Speaker, Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, received the first group of commissioner nominees from Governor Chukwuma Soludo for confirmation during plenary on Tuesday.
The nominees and the ministries assigned to them, according to the list, are as follows: Agriculture, Dr. Ben Chuks Odoemena; Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye; Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Udoji Amedu; Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua; Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, and Finance – Mr. Izuchukwu M. Okafor.
Others are Health — Dr. Afam Obidike; Information and Value Reformation — Dr. Law Mefor; Justice/Attorney-General – Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, Lands — Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, SAN and Local Government and Community Affairs— Barr. Vin Ezeaka.
Other names in the list are: Petroleum and Mineral Resources — Prof. Charles Ofoegbu; Physical Planning and Urban Development — Barr. Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu; Power — Engr.
