Gospel music sensation, Mercy Chinwo has filed N1 billion lawsuit against Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), at the High Court of Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

According to exclusive court papers sighted by ENigeria News, Mercy Chinwe is seeking N1 billion in general damages, N100 million in punitive and aggravated damages, and an additional N25 million to cover the cost of the lawsuit.

The singer also requested that the court orders VDM to delete the alleged defamatory posts, issue a public apology, and publish retractions in four national newspapers for 14 consecutive days.

ENigeria News reports that the gospel singer said that VDM made fallacious claims against her in a video posted on his Instagram page on 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th, 12th and 17th day of February 2025 where accused the claimant of going “behind the record label to go and collect shows”. “She was collecting gigs and she was not remitting money to the record label.”

She is therefore requesting an order of court directing the defendant (VDM) to write an unreserved apology to her and publish same in four national dallies consistently for 14 consecutive days.

She also praying the court to direct the defendant to pay her the sum N100,000,000 as punitive and aggravated Damages for the grossly defamatory statement. Another order directing the defendant to pay her the sum of N25,000,000 as the cost of the suit filed before the court

Order of court directing the Defendant to pay 10% of the judgment sum per annum until the final liquidation sum, among others.
