Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has confirmed he will honour an invitation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

ENigeria News reports that the former governor made this known on Friday via his verified X account, stating that his legal team had formally notified the commission of his readiness to appear as scheduled.

“Yesterday, after the futile attempt to abduct me, the ICPC delivered a letter to invite me to their office.

“My lawyer has written to confirm that I will be attending the ICPC office on Wednesday, 18 February 2026,” he wrote.

The invitation comes a day after a tense encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where security operatives reportedly attempted to detain him upon his arrival from Cairo, Egypt, as reported by ENigeria Newspaper.

El-Rufai described the episode as an attempted abduction, alleging that officers initially acted without presenting a formal invitation letter.

His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, claimed that the operatives also confiscated the former governor’s international passport during the incident. Counsel to El-Rufai, Ubong Akpan, criticized the airport action as unlawful, maintaining that his client is willing to cooperate with legitimate investigations but must be accorded due process.

Akpan further revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier issued an invitation while El-Rufai was abroad.

According to him, the legal team had already informed the EFCC that the former governor would voluntarily appear before the commission by 10 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026.
