The All Progressives Congress (APC) has indefinitely suspended Rivers State chieftain Fubara Dagogo, just a day before the party’s national convention.
ENigeria Newspaper learnt that the suspension was imposed by the ward executive committee of Ward 4, Bonny Local Government Area, citing allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
“The ward exco has always advised its members to desist from actions capable of ridiculing our party, but your recent actions have shown that you are not willing to respect and abide by the constitution and actions of our great party,” the resolution signed by Ward Chairman Richard Ibani, Secretary Donald Jumbo, and 21 other members read.
Dagogo, who had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to halt the South-South Zonal Congress, alleged that he was unfairly excluded from contesting for the position of National Vice-Chairman, South-South, despite paying N5.1 million for the nomination form. He requested the court to declare him eligible, suspend the zonal congress, and award N100 million in damages for wrongful exclusion.
The ward leadership accused him of violating the APC Constitution, making unguided statements, disobeying lawful directives, and demeaning party leaders. According to the committee, these acts contravened Articles 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII) of the APC Constitution of 2022 (as amended).
Dagogo’s suspension comes amid assurances from the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee that the party is fully prepared for the March 27–28 convention. Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, Chairman of the committee, stated, “We assure Nigerians and even those outside Nigeria that the APC is very ready for the 2026 convention, which will start in the early hours of tomorrow.”
“In line with federal character, all offices are zoned. If you come to buy a form in a zone not allotted to you, we suspect that you are only there to create confusion. Who likes confusion?”
The APC leadership insists the zoning system ensures fairness and organizational order, adding that all 25 sub-committees are satisfied with preparations for the upcoming convention.
