The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHG) has yet to address the viral video involving the personnel of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy engaging in a serious punch fight yesterday at Bayelsa while the convoy of President Tinubu was leaving the commissioning of projects.
In the viral video, while the presidential convoy of the president was leaving the inaugration around Bayelsa yesterday, a driver of a Hilux marked “Naval Police” was seen getting out of his car and conversing with another driver. Shortly after he got back into his car, a soldier with a rifle came up and punched the Naval Police driver, starting a fight.
Untimately, the brawl had started with a heated altercation, before later escalated into exchanging blows in full public display.
Many in the region were terrified that the altercation might get out of hand and result in gunshots.
While the cause of the brawl is uncertain as at the time of this report, ENigeria Newspaper can confirm that the Defence Headquarters has not released any official statement to address the fight as the fight portends a bad optic for the image of the Nigerian military which still grapple with effficiency and stability in the midst of incessant insurgent cases, especially in the northern part of the country.
President Tinubu was in Bayelsa to commission three major projects, including a 60-megawatt independent gas-powered turbine valued at millions of naira. The Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, the dualized new Yenagoa City Road, and the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie Road projects were also put into service by the President, who was joined by prominent guests, including former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Tinubu also promised to provide more weapons and ammunition to the Nigerian Armed Forces in order to strengthen the battle against terrorism and insurgency.
“We will continue to partner together to make it a Golden Delta. That is my assurance to the good people of Bayelsa State and Nigeria. We will remain focused on development that will make our nation great,” Tinubu said.
